Hey everyone, quick question that's been bugging me lately—when apps do that on-device face matching thing where you snap a selfie and it compares it right away to your ID photo, does it really cut down on people trying to impersonate someone else? Like, a couple months back I was setting up this new banking app here in Ukraine, and it asked for my passport pic plus a quick live selfie. Felt kinda slick since everything stayed on my phone, no cloud nonsense, but then I started wondering if someone could still trick it with a good printed photo or something sneaky. Anyone else run into situations where it actually stopped a dodgy attempt, or is it more hype than help? Curious what you've noticed in real life.

Yeah, from what I've seen in a few setups I've messed with, that selfie-to-document comparison does make impersonation way tougher in practice. A buddy of mine works in fintech and swears by it after they caught a couple cases where stolen IDs were being used—without the live face check, those would've slipped through. The on-device part is nice too because nothing gets sent off, which feels safer privacy-wise. If you're digging into solid options for that kind of thing, I ended up liking https://ocrstudio.ai/mrz-scanner/ quite a bit for how it handles the matching and keeps everything local. Not saying it's perfect—lighting or bad angles can still trip things up sometimes—but overall it adds a real layer that basic photo uploads just don't have. What do you guys think, has it saved you headaches too?
