I didn't realise you could build up the staff member for success or empower them by delegating tasks or allowing them to debrief. I didn't think that a Prime course was a good idea at this time, as there is a lot going on at the practice but the timing couldn't have been better!

We procrastinated as the owner of 2 dental practices on when to join Prime Practice for some time. We always knew we wanted to start the program but it "wasnt the right time".

We will never be able to do the dentistry we want to do if we cant have the patient diagnose their condition/issue. We cant blame the patient for "not getting it". It is our fault!

The Practice Owners Workshop was an overwhelmingly informative 2 day program. Instructors provided clear & concise information without being overly prescriptive.
The financial planning aspect and many of the HR issues illustrate aspects we should know but many of us don't for a variety of reasons. The workshop makes you think about what we do, why we do it and if we can do it better.
I have no doubts that this course has strong potential for nearly all dentists.

Workshop 1 is a very comprehensive introduction in understanding numbers and how they impact on practice growth. Having a vision greatly assists in clarifying where the practice wants to be. I can honestly say I have never seen anyone put as much of their heart and soul into the preparation and execution of a seminar as our trainers have over the last two days. Workshop 2 was a wonderful opportunity for our team to communicate with each other outside the busy atmosphere of the surgery, which led to a greater understanding of the pressures each experiences in their differing roles. The daily huddle has given us a tool to continue this back at work.
I confess I came thinking not another seminar. However it was full of most useful and practical information.
The course was definately an eye opener. I didn't know what to expect or what I would get out of the course. A very useful workshop. We have a number of new staff who have been quiet and not really contributing to meetings. The exercises were great in helping these members open up, become engaged and ultimately providing solutions and taking ownership for those solutions.

7 years ago I didn't know a thing about business management, finance, etc... (I was just a dentist) I sent my non dental physicist husband and co-owner of our practice to attend a Prime Practice course-we had a new baby, a 7 year old practice, a brand new location, huge overheads and I wanted a brief break to decrease my work load and bring new blood into my practice. I wanted a locum to PT ED and didn't have a clue about how to get there.
My husband came back and said 'you don't need a dentist, you need a hygienist and an urgent crash course on business management'. That was the end of a wish, I couldn't afford any! A year later I met with Prime Practice, and the rest is history. I've been a Prime Practice client over a 5-6 year period, I have learnt much, am still learning and have expanded my business many times over. As a dentist I really wasn't sure if I should be at the course with my team but I'm so glad I attended. A paradigm shift in the way we approach new patients and the most effective communication tools I've ever seen!
Having taken many years worth of management classes for the dental office and learning many 'scripts', I found PrimeSpeak's method of honesty and education to feel much more natural for the patient and practitioner. It is a relaxing method of communication that is non-confrontational and information-based. I think it gets back to the basics of teaching the patient what they need to know to make an informed decision and allowing them the right and freedom to choose what's best for them at that time. After all, that's what we're supposed to do.
If you think you are successful when you have 80% case acceptance and 20% rejection, think again! With PrimeSpeak you will not have rejections! A great new approach of communications and patient examination.
I hope that applying PrimeSpeak principles will ultimately eliminate the constant struggle to 'win' a patient's acceptance of treatment. How nice it would be to be a part of a more relaxed AND successful practice using honest, sincere priniples. I was fascinated from beginning to end!

The last three days have been very insightful in helping to understand new steps to help our whole practice grow and become more successful...It's a whole new way of looking at how to communicate with patients, and the teachings will also be helpful in dealing with everyday life with family and friends. I've gotten so much out of the last three days and now I have to go away and make sure I help implement these into our practice. Although I am sure we will get all the help we need from our coach.
Our practice has been with Prime Practice for quite some time now, so I wasn't sure how much more I could really learn. The answer was on the last slide of the presentation 'the learning has only just begun'. It has been so helpful to get into more detail about the strategies and techniques and how to apply them in different situations. Now I'm just looking forward to PrimeSpeak 2 to 'cement' all this.
I have been going to Prime Practice workshops for approximately 3 years and still learning, working out how to keep my Principal Dentist on track of his goals to be able to support him and the team.
I guess many of dentists would like to be seen as caring and friendly. At the same time we also want to be practicing the dentistry that we want. PrimeSpeak helps me to achieve both objectives. First of all I always love courses run by Prime Practice. Most of the team have met me before and it's great when they recognise me and ask how things are going. We were already using some PrimeSpeak techniques prior to this course, so although I had an understanding of the techniques the last three days really clarified each technique for me and the sequence to use for the best results in a new patient exam.

To be honest, I was a little sceptical initially, expecting it to be a sales pitch. However. PrimeSpeak has equipped me with the skills to communicate more effectively but still being honest and entirely down to earth.

I have joined a practice as a dentist who had already been implementing Prime Practice and found it to be a well organised, happy and productive place to work. Over time the new patient exam and consultation process has evolved in our practice. I felt we were fairly effective at 'convincing' patients of the treatment they required. I wish I knew this course information 20 years ago. How much different my practice would be today. It's all part of the journey, I suppose. You have filled in many of the gaps for me and my team. We will now be better able to serve our patients by being able to better utilize the clinical skills we have learned at Primespeak and improving the lives of our patients. We have learned a process whereby patients can comfortably see the condition of their own oral health the same way as my team and I view it, and be comfortable in what can be done to improve the condition or problems which are present.
The appeal of PrimeSpeak to me is the absence of 'selling' - and, although I will have to practice to become skilled at it, the process feels right. It is a nice, gentle, honest approach to patient education and decision making. In two words:win-win.
Having nearly completed the initial three days of PrimeSpeak, I am feeling both excited and a bit overwhelmed. PrimeSpeak is fundamentally different from 'case presentation' or 'sales' courses... Instead of just accepting treatment recommendations, the guests will be demanding that advanced doctors love the ability to deliver. The best point is there is no rejection or loss of relationship with PrimeSpeak methods.
The trainers did an awesome job! Although at times I felt very overloaded with information, I know once I re-read the workbook it will fall into place and I am very excited to see it in place at our practice.

The trainer is a master of his subject and I would challenge anybody to ask him a question relating to dentist/patient communication that he cannot provide a stellar answer to. I honestly have no negative comments.

As a dental assistant I have worked in practices without Prime and have been in a 'prime practice' i am in now since the beginning. I can say I wouldn't want to work without it! As a dental assistant with 8 years experience I have attended many various skills workshops, none of which I found very helpful. I didn't know what to except from the Prime Practice workshops but have found they far exceeded anything I'd been to previously. Prime gives you the skills and confidence to deal with any issue in your practice, and the answers to all the hard questions. It is invaluable and I would thoroughly recommend it.
Since working with Prime over the last year our day is structured so we work within a time frame for our 8 hour day. Smoothe running of our makes a happy team as we are all working towards the same outcome! We also feel each person contributes towards the practice enegry and growth. Prime definitely changes a practice's outlook and outcome.

At the start of my journey with Prime I felt that our practice was floundering and we weren't getting anywhere fast. In 2 years with Prime, our practice has taken a huge paradigm shift, we've implemented all systems that Prime has provided us. We are a progressive, cohesive practice. We all know where we are going and forward momentum and growth of the practice is immense. Dreams always occur when you have the ability to achieve them.
We knew our practice needed change but we didn't know what or how. Prime has helped us take control of our practice, identify changes we needed to make and then implement them to suit us. Our whole team has benefited as the practice has evolved and will continue to evolve.
Prime is for the team. It sets direction and implements systems to get there but for the key is the team involvement and ownership. The monthly calls with your coach keep you on task so you follow through on your actions. Looking back we have come a long way over the series of workshops, as individuals and a team.
I remember the heavy atmosphere of Workshop 2 where staff members around the room felt overwhelmed, resistant, angry or noncommittal with the proposed changes. Looking back at the journey of the last two years it is exciting and rewarding to see the results of a more committed, happy and cohesive team and a practice running smoothly with systems in place and a shared vision. It has been hard work but worth it.

Having taken on a new career as Practice Co-ordinator and after attending Workshop 2 I left feeling overwhelmed, full of resistance and nearly thought about crying due to the vast amount of information passed my way. However, after sitting back and taking a deep breath I put into place many of Prime's ideas. This has over time led to our whole practice running very smoothly in a friendly and professional environment. I love my job and thank the team around me and Prime Practice for this. Prime Practice is great and I attend workshops now with a very open mind.
Prime Practice has taken our team to a higher level of customer service, setting us apart from the competition and surrounding dental practices. Once again I have heard many things that will help us run our practice more efficiently, more enjoyable for us and to allow our patients to make their choice with much less pressure on the dentist (allowing the patients to take ownership of their problem).
Prime has made a huge difference for me in that I have been able to identify clear goals and very positive ways in which to achieve them. Communication with patients has become pleasurable and very fulfilling rather than repetitive and I no longer feel like I am "banging my head on the wall" trying to get messages through. Very effective and most definitely worth the effort involved.
Prime Practice has helped our practice to become more efficient and less hectic. The systems that we now use have helped us to become a better, less stressed practice and, as well as benefiting staff, has also improved our level of service to our patients. The process will continue to be ongoing as we are still learning to become a better practice.
As a rural practice, I didn't think Prime was going to help much. Once started I saw that there were a lot of things that would help us to become a happier and more efficient team. It took us a long time as the process of implementing systems was challenging, many times I wanted to throw it away and go back to the old way. After persevering with everything, it all started to take shape. Now I can't believe the way we used to work. My work environment has become friendlier, easier, and a more happier place to work.
We were a busy country practice trying to see and service as many members of our community as possible... and going nuts with stress!

This was 3 full days of amazing information. New skills are exposed that are sometimes mind boggling but seem to be very effective and make me excited about going back to the office on Monday to start implementation.
Overall the techniques, mental and emotional processes relating to human behavior and dental services make sense and are very well set up to be implemented.
During different sequences and training exercises, I was able to relate to our own process in our practice. I have learned that empowering doesn’t lie in being agreeable and building on peoples weaknesses, but in implementing techniques and skills to guide people to make their own decision and being honest and committed to their responsibilities.

Wow, I was blown away. I have taken countless practice management courses and utilized in-office consultants but I have never seen such powerful, seemingly counter-intuitive, and revolutionary material that every dentist and their team should hear. What an incredible paradigm! If you care about your patients, your team, and yourself and want ultimately to do the right thing then consider this course.
Finally – a program that takes all the pressure off selling and closing on dental treatment – what a relief. PrimeSpeak to me is an entirely different way of communicating with a patient. It really is being “with” the patient instead of talking to the patient. Through self-discovery a patient determines their needs and asks for a solution to “their” problems. I recommend it highly if you are interested in being more effective in case acceptance.

PrimeSpeak is going to change the whole way our practice functions. Learning how to effectively communicate with our patients and getting them to actually want treatment is going to improve our production immensely. There was so much information in how to deal with every patient response – I’m excited to get back to the office to practise, and eventually master the PrimeSpeak skills.
The trainers were great in hammering out details and providing examples , and so helpful when we broke into groups and they had great solutions/suggestions to problems we were experiencing.

The doctor in our practice took PrimeSpeak1 before our team did. I watched and listened to how he communicated to our patients after that and how they were practically begging for treatment afterwards.

Makes case presentation honest and sincere – very ethical.
Very different from previous courses. I like the direction Primespeak takes. It makes more sense when I put myself in the patients' shoes. I will be practicing and implementing these techniques soon.

Prime has given us the opportunity to control our practice in all aspects. We have been given the skills to give our patients the best treatment clinically and emotionally. Our staff is also feeling the benefits of a wonderful smooth running practice.
Although not yet perfect, our days are a lot more structured and better organised. There is still a long way to go but we keep progressing. There is also better communication between the teams and feedback is given now that wouldn’t have necessarily been said in the past. It’s also allowed us to expand into a bigger and better practice which we are all looking forward to.
Prime has helped me tremendously. Both practice wise and also mentally. I was stagnating (mid-life crisis) I guess and knew we could do better. My business partner and I bit the bullet and went for it. It was scary and daunting and it still is but at least we were and are doing something and funnily enough it is really working. If you think you are stagnating and need impetus I can’t recommend Prime highly enough.

Attending the Front Office Training course has been an excellent session for new staff as an introduction to Prime Practice. This was an informative and sound education of why and how we have established policies, procedures and communication skills. This session has reconfirmed how far as a practice we have changed, yet revisiting training confirms success is a journey and not a destination – there is always room to learn more and improve.

This course is fabulous. My only mistake was not bringing the entire team. It is a new language that everyone in the office must speak.

An amazing, frustrating, wonderful, maddening, natural, counterintuitive course.
I've felt in the past that I’ve always had the confidence and demeanor to effectively communicate with my patients, but after PrimeSpeak, now I feel like I have the skills and tools to make it altogether positive for the patient - dentist relationship and a positive outcome in with case acceptance.
This course is a well spring of finely tuned strategies. It gives the dentist and his or her team the skills, knowledge and confidence to approach even difficult patients with a proven system to present optimum dentistry in a non confrontational manner. It truly promises to lower the stress on a day-to-day level and gives both the patients and the dental staff a win/win environment.
This course identified many of the obstacles to treatment acceptance and gave a very in depth, fluid system for how to address these.
I can see more clearly why in certain instances I have succeeded in obtaining treatment acceptance and why in other situations I have not.
I have my work cut out for me to make the behavioural changes that will be necessary but I believe that if I make them it will be a key to unlock the door to patients wanting and accepting what I have to offer to help them.
A very thorough and elegant system.
The PrimeSpeak course was absolutely an eye-opener for me. The course teaches you everything that a dentist needs to do differently than he/she was taught. The approach is a "no brainer" to get the result you want from a patient, all based on emotionally driven behaviours. There will be challenges in changing a learned behaviour, which we all are used to (e.g. giving solutions to problems with no results); however, it will be all worth it in the end.
This course really made me open my eyes as a hygienist. The way I was trained as an assistant and hygienist are very different in the type of communication skills you are teaching. I completed the JP Hygiene course here at LVI almost one and a half years ago and I feel your style is more trust building and effective – in creating a win/win situation – too bad your are only teaching this course two times next year – it may be beneficial to repeat after awhile of implementing in office so we can perfect our technique.
This course is a must for LVI practices because they give you lots of tools to sway the patients to get them to ASK for ideal treatment; and it really takes the pressure off the dentist to try to communicate or sell them the appropriate treatment. So only the dentists that want to decrease their stress and increase their enrolment should sign up for the class.
Finally a blue print laid to follow the hardest thing in dentistry - helping the patient achieve their need. It's easy to blame someone if things don't work. The problem and the solutions now lie within our grasp.
No matter what patient situation the group presented, the trainer was able to talk us into a solution. I believe everyone has experienced a feeling of being in a situation that ended badly, but when it presents itself again in the future after PrimeSpeak the outcome will be totally different. Enjoyed the experience.
One of the things I enjoyed the most about dentistry is truly getting to know our patients. One of the things I dread the most is rejection and feeling we did not solve a patients' problems. This course really helps me present with genuine solutions without the stress of feeling like you have to close the case. Thank you.

The course was more about the patients giving solutions to us instead of dentists telling the patients what to do.
The course honours patients as individuals, respects their boundaries and avoids violating them which may have resulted in alienating the patients from the practice.
The course has taught me not only what I have been doing wrong and somewhat right in my treatment presentations but also why they were wrong or right. The role-playing is very helpful in my learning to re-pattern my behaviour to assist my patients to choose the best care for them.

I thoroughly enjoyed the day. I learnt a lot and will take back to the dentist for discussion. I found it hard at times to agree with booking multiple appointments, booking within two weeks etc. This is because our surgery is not in Sydney or Melbourne and we have much longer waiting lists. After speaking to a Prime coach, things became a lot easier.

Joining the Prime program was the best decision I have made since graduating from uni in 1986. Prime has helped verify the need for ongoing support and training in practice management, and more importantly, enjoying and growing whilst practicing dentistry.
We are not trained in practice management and people skills during our undergraduate training. Yet we are expected by both our peers and the general public to be well-versed in both areas upon entering general practice, especially when one owns their own practice.
The personal growth I have experienced is exceptional, as is the increase in remuneration that comes with being part of the Prime Practice Management Program. I would implore anyone who is a practice principal to join Prime Practice with no second thoughts. The analogy I use is this: If an athlete has a personal trainer to help them reach the zenith of their personal potential, why shouldn't a dentist (or any other professional) not have a personal trainer as well?

It's late on Sunday night but I just felt I had to put this down. I am quite pleased with myself after reviewing the year's figures and planning for the year ahead this weekend, and I want to thank you for your assistance over the past two and a half years.
Before starting the program, I was working 5 eight-hour days and every second Saturday, and despite enjoying my work professionally, I had come to the conclusion my dreams for life were unachievable working as a dentist. The dream beach house I had purchased a few years prior was beyond my means.
Since starting,
New patient numbers each month have doubled
Case acceptance has gone from 30% to 85%
Receipts have risen from $691,000 to $1,010,000
Profit, (EBOC), has risen from about $190,000 to $370,000 this year.
All of this has been achieved in less working hours (230 down to 205 eight-hour days) with drastic staff changes. I know it was me who had to effect the changes, but your training has also developed me and my practice, enabling me to move through the loss of all critical staff within six months due to theft, marriage and pregnancy. Key staff developed skill and responsibility with your training. Self interest driven staff simply left and were replaced by better people. I had the flexibility to employ the right people when they gave their notice (six months). With this time and responsible support I recently selected novices, without suffering any lapse in income, and actually continued to improve the bottom line. Each change of staff improves the practice a notch.
Next year I expect to reach your forecast of $400,000 EBOC working a 30 hour week plus staff meetings. This years financial reports provide a light to achieve my goals in the future once again. As you know I have just purchased a wonderful site for my new surgery and look forward to finding someone to join me there.
The program's completeness sets it above other management programs I have looked at or heard about since. Too often I had come back from a short course with a list of changes to make which I tried putting into effect with little or no net benefit and lots of resistance from staff. The ordered manner of your program brought all my scattered enthusiasm into an effective form with the staff eager to join in.
I would not say it has been easy, but if I have any regrets, it would be not doing this sooner. Just the figures alone would make it worthwhile, but more importantly, I know I am offering a higher quality service than before and I am now proud of what I have to offer my patients. I also have the means (time and money) available to continue improving that service in the future.

As one of three hygienists in our practice, the most noticeable difference since the beginning of Prime Practice is how full my appointment book is.
Another big difference is that there are few missed or broken appointments now, due to reminder calls 48 hours in advance (we were doing 24 hrs) and explaining scarcity to patients if they are considering cancelling or postponing. In the event that they do need to cancel, we now have a priority call list which we access to fill these times.
Patients seem to be opting for the more "ideal" treatment that generally generates money and also a full mouth approach rather than patching up areas here and there as they breakdown. The patient appreciates the work done from a cosmetic point of view.
The areas covered by Prime Practice have been beneficial not only from a work aspect, but can be put to use in family and social situations. In 27 years of dental hygiene, I have never been happier or busier.
